While the Boeing and Douglas were concentrating on their respective new jetliners, the taks of developing America's first turbo-prop airliners fell to Lockheed. The L-188 "Electra" boasted a 400 mph cruise speed, not far from the speed of today's jetliners! With a range of 2500 miles, the Electra was perfect for key routes world over.
