Sinking Of The Tirpitz by Frank Wootton
After the destruction of the Ruhr Dams for which the Squadron was formed and achieved worldwide fame, 617's greatest success was the final destruction of the Tirpitz on 12th November1944, bringing to an end a menace that had long haunted allied naval strategy. This print captures the exact moment that Tallboys from 617 Squadron's Lancasters rained down destruction on Tirpitz.
Each print was countersigned by five 617 Squadron aircraft captains on the raid, including its famous leader, "Willie" Tait.
