The High And The Mighty by Mark McCandlish

This beautiful limited edition lithograph dramatically depicts a mission flown by the 447th and 445th Bomber Squadrons, 321st Bomb Group, on the fifth day of Operation Strangle. Thoroughly researched, this historically accurate piece is impressive in its extensive detail. The strategy of Operation Strangle was ultimately responsible for the penetration of the Gustav Line, where Allied Forces at Cassino had been stalled for over four month in early 1944.
The eruption of Mt. Vesuvius alone accounted for the greatest single monetary loss of aircraft during the Second World War: 88 B-25s of the 340th Bomb Group which were based at the Pompeii Airdrome.
This exquisite lithograph has been meticulously reproduced from the original acrylic painting and printed on 100 lb. archival stock. "The High And The Mighty" is available as a limited edition of 950 hand-signed and numbered prints, with 50 remarqued artist proofs.
