Stung By A Hornet by Mark McCandlish

This popular limited edition lithograph is a stunning account of the fictitious engagement of a Marine Corps F/A-18A Hornet and a Soviet MiG-29 Fulcrum over the Indian ocean. Having outgunned the MiG, the Hornet driver deploys his speed brake to match the deceleration of the mortally wounded Fulcrum, and begins a victory roll as the Soviet pilot ejects.

Featuring the squadron markings of VMFA-531 of El Toro Marine Corps Air Station, California, the lithograph is highly detalied and has been faithfully reproduced on museum quality, 80 lb. Quintessence Dull Cover Stock. Thei certified archival paper is acid and alum free, has a neutral pH and is buffered against environmental contamination. Historically, VMFA-531 was one of the first "night fighter" squadrons to use a radar, as is symbolized by the squadron logo of a skull emanating two lightning bolts on a background of stars in groups of five, three and one.

One of the most outstanding aviation artists in North America, Mark McCandlish employs a distinctive photo-realistic style which has become his trademark. Widely experienced in technical illustration and conceptiual art, Mark has worked extensively in the aerospace and defense industry. His art has been seen on the covers of High Technology, Discover, Wings, Popular Mechanics and Popular Science magazines. "Stung By A Hornet" is his first limited edition.
