Boeing Prototype model 299 first flew out of Boeing Field on 28th July 1935. It was designed to counter any invasion fleet, which dared to attack the United States. However the Flying Fortress because one of the principle weapons used during WWII in occupied Europe. Learning from the bitter experiences of courageous and committed B-17 crews, Boeing was able to improve and update the aircraft into a formidable opponent. Vast armada of 8th Air Force B17's roamed far and wide from 1942 to 1945, ensuring final victory.
