Black Tulip On Final by Brian Bateman

Words from the artist:
I have enjoyed this one and hope that my depiction shows the end of an era never to be repeated with the symbolism of the storm clouds of war fading away and a new era of peace/blue skies coming in from the left, and the setting sun on what was a brilliant fighter pilot of the Second World War.
The depiction is Hartmann's 109G-14 coming in on final approach to landing during his brief stint with JG/53 in Veszprem Hungary. Eric Hartmann scored 352 victories in less than 4 years in combat! In todays era of heat seeking missiles and fly-by-wire technology we will never see this type of victory list again from any nation. Hartmann's story is an incredible one at that-avid fans of the Luftwaffe should read "The Blond Knight" and the book "Erich Hartmann" by Schiffer Military History Publications.
His captivity after the war in Russia makes interesting reading.
Details in the painting include a vacant farm house and a Schwimmagwen speeding towards the air base nestled in the snowy winter of February 1945 in a typical Hungarian winter.
