P-38 Lightning
Railbuster by Zoernig

France, July 1944. First Lt. Richard Loehnert of Long Beach, California completes a firing pass on a German BR 41 locomotive carrying war material to Wehrmacht forces in the Norman hedgerows. With a potent gun package housed in the nose of the central gondola, Loehnert's P-38J Lightning could severely punish any target with fire from its Hispano 20mm cannon and quartet of Browning .50 caliber machine guns.
California Cutie, Loehnert's aircraft, flew out of Kingscliffe, Northhamptonshire, England as a member of the Eighth Airforce's 20th Fighter Group, 55th Fighter Squadron, and piled up an impressive combat record during and after the D-Day landings. Mission markings included 56 bomber escort sorties, 16 top cover missions, 11 fighter sweeps and a total of six locomotives destroyed as well as two aerial kills.
