Hunting Party

Spring, 1944. The Fiat G 55 Centauro begins to defind the Italian skies against the Allied bombing offensive. Designed around Germany's DB605A engine, the Centauro was a beautiful airframe that was fast, manueverable and heavily armed with three Mauser 151/20 cannon and a pair of Breda/Safat 12.7mm machine guns. Shown above is Yellow 5 of Second Group, Second Squadron in Luftwaffe-inspired camoflage. Flying wing is another G 55 of 2 Gruppo Caccia in the overall dark green livery. Both aircraft operated out of Casina Vaga.
