By Request by Zoernig

During May 1944, the 332nd Fighter Group - 99th Fighter Squadron, provides escort service for the 15th Air Force toward a target in South Germany. The 332nd Fighter Group, under the command of then Lt. Col. Benjamin O. Davis Jr., inspects his formation during flight just before reaching their target, led by Major William "Wild Bill" Campbell and his right wingman, Flight Officer Charles A. Lane, Jr. They were one of the most successful P-51 groups of the war. From mid 1944 until the end of the war in Europe, the 332nd Fighter Group flew an incredible number of missions. The title, "By Request," is a reference to bomber crews who asked to be escorted by the 332nd because of its record of never losing a bomber under their protection to enemy fighters during the entire war.
