Early Morning Airstrike

The early morning light captures a pair of Aichi D3A1 Navy Type 99 bombers en route to an unspecified objective somewhere in the South Pacific, 1942. The Type 99, codenamed "Val" by the allies, served throughout the duration of the Pacific war as both a land and carrier-based attack craft. During the first ten months of the war, its crews were responsible for more shipping sunk than those of any other Axis dive bomber.
