Struggle Begins, The by Roy Grinnell
The second of his Battle of Britain Trilogy, artist Roy Grinnel depicts Hurricanes of No. 32 Squadron as there were scrambled from their forward base at Hawkinge to intercept Ju-87 Stuka dive-bombers as they attacked Dover Harbor. Flying through the Dover flak defences to engage the Stukas, the Hurricanes were set upon by 24 escorting Me-109s of JG 51. At 11:43, Flt Lt Pete Brothers brought down one of the Messerschmitts, his first of the Battle of Britain.
