Final Assault

November 12, 1944. The German battleship Tirpitz is sunk by Lancasters of R.A.F. Squadrons 9 and 617 in a Norwegian fiord.
Signed by:
Sub-Lieutenant Richard H. Kendall, Royal Navy. He was a member of the X-craft (midget submarines) which attacked the Tirpitz. His submarine broke the back of the battleship, although he was taken prisoner. He received the D.S.O.
Terje Jacobsen was a member of the Norwegian underground, tasked with shadowing the Tirpitz and reporting back to London by radio as to the effects of the attacks. Betrayed to the Gestapo, he and his mother escaped to Sweden.
Flight Lieutenant Harry Haxby, D.F.M. A member of the Royal Air Force, he flew on two attacks against the Tirpitz with 35 Squadron Halifaxes.
Midshipman Alfred Zuba was a member of the Tirpitz crew when she was attacked on November 12th., 1944. He was trapped inside the hull when she capsized, and was rescued through a hole cut into the hull. He was one of less than 90 survivors from a crew of 1,000 men.
Oberleutnant Kurt Schulze was scrambled to assist the Tirpitz during the final attack, but reached the battleship too late to help.
Flight Leader Tony Iveson, D.FC., was a member of the Royal Air Force. He was one of the Lancaster pilots who dropped a 'Tallboy' bomb on the Tirpitz in this final attack.
