Lancaster

Ruhr Express by Bailey

On the night of November 22, 1943, P/O Floren turned the Lancaster "Ruhr Express" away from Berlin when the port outer engine failed. In this stunning painting, two German officers and their lady friends arrive at a railway station in the outskirts of Berlin. Before German guards have the time to check their papers, "Ruhr Express" arrives overhead during its dash back to England. Even though it is running on three engines, the aircraft had trouble maintaining altitude.
The aircraft was KB700 and was the first Canadian built Lancaster and flew with 405 Squadron, RCAF. It was flown from Canada to England by Reg Lane, who then became CO of 405 Squadron.

Each print is signed by eight Lancaster crewmen, including Lt. General R.J. Lane, DSO, DFC, CD.
